Make your own flat pillow with a pit

The flat pillow with a pit is the easiest to make yourself. You need a piece of hard polystyrene foam, 5 cm thick. With a saw or a kitchen knife cut out a piece suitable for your pillow. Then cut out the pit and cover the pillow with cloth. A small pillow with which you can work lace balls up to 8 cm in diameter has, for example, the dimensions shown in the diagram.

In addition you will need a little wooden wedge and little blocks of hard polystyrene foam so that you can fix styrofoam balls of different sizes in the pit (see Photo).

If you have a pillow with exchangeable blocks you can take a block out and wedge the styrofoam ball into the space you have made or you could make an extra block with a pit in it. But note: many of the pillows with exchangeable blocks are only 3 cm thick: with these you can only fix in place balls up to 6 cm in diameter. Pillows with removable cylinders can also be adapted to hold a styrofoam ball.
